چکیده

SimMETRO is a microscopic, dynamic, stochastic simulator of urban rail operations (METRO), specifically designed for service performance analysis, and evaluation of operations and strategies for real time control of subway systems. SimMETRO employs a detailed representation of the network, rolling stock, signal control, demand, schedule and dispatching. In particular, the various sources of stochasticity in operations are explicitly captured. The paper also presents approaches for calibration of model parameters and input (such as dynamic arrival and alighting rates at stations). A case study, focusing on the Red Line in Boston, MA, is used to illustrate the applicability of the model and the proposed calibration methodology. The results show that calibration, improves the performance of the model. The RMSE of block run times (relative to actual times as reported by the train detection system) is reduced by 60%. The calibrated demand matches well recent counts of arrival rates at the stations, and the model can be used to evaluate alternative operating strategies.

Demand-oriented timetable design for urban rail transit under stochastic demand

In the context of public transportation system, improving the service quality and robustness through minimizing the average passengers waiting time is a real challenge. This study provides robust stochastic programming models for train timetabling problem in urban rail transit systems. The objective is minimization of the weighted summation of the expected cost of passenger waiting time, its va...

Development of a Finite Element Methodology for Flexible Track Models in Railway Dynamics Applications

The dynamic analysis of railway vehicles involves the construction of three independent models: the vehicle model; the track model; and the wheel-rail contact model. In this work, a multibody formulation with Cartesian coordinates is used to describe the kinematic structure of the rigid bodies and joints that constitute the vehicle model. A methodology is also proposed in order to create detail...

A DEVS library for rail operations simulation

Detailed yet computationally efficient simulation models are needed to support the design and operation of modern rail infrastructure systems. LIBROS-II is a model component library for microscopic rail operations simulation. Basic rail elements are modeled as atomic DEVS models which are further aggregated into more elaborate rail component models. The latter can in turn be used modularly for ...

Design of a rail transit line for profit maximization in a linear transportation corridor

This paper addresses the design problem of a rail transit line located in a linear urban transportation corridor. The service variables designed are a combination of rail line length, number and locations of stations, headway and fare. Two profit maximization models, which account for the effects of different transit pricing structures (flat and distance-based fare regimes), are proposed. In th...

Fundamental Diagram of Rail Transit and Its Application to Dynamic Assignment

Urban rail transit often operates with high service frequencies to serve heavy passenger demand during rush hours. Such operations can be delayed by train congestion, passenger congestion, and the interaction of the two. Delays are problematic for many transit systems, as they become amplified by this interactive feedback. However, there are no tractable models to describe transit systems with ...
